Abstract: Stainless steel is the ideal material which is extensively used in the newlinevarious industrial applications due to its superior corrosion resistance, higher newlinecreep and tensile strength at elevated temperatures and great machinability newlinehowever, stainless steel exhibits poor wear resistance and high friction at newlinesliding wear environments. Extensive research and development of coating newlinetechniques, as well as low-cost processing methodologies, has taken place in newlinerecent years with the goal of addressing wear and tribological defects in newlinemetals and alloys. Nitride coatings are generally used to enhance the surface newlineproperties of the materials in order to function in wear and sliding newlineenvironments and to provide resistance against wear. newlineIn this research work the Multilayer deposition of Titanium Nitride newlinecoatings and Aluminium Chromium Nitride (TiN/AlCrN) and Titanium newlineNitride and Aluminium Titanium Nitride (TiN/AlTiN) coatings were newlinedeposited as multilayer over the SS316L surface and the tribological studies newlinewith the constant sliding velocity of 0.5m/s and the constant sliding distance newlineof 1000 m were performed in ambient temperature (36 and#61616;C) and the elevated newlinetemperature (400 and#61616;C) against counterpart of Al6061 aluminium alloy. It is newlinefound that the coefficient of friction of both multilayer deposited samples newlinewere raised during the increase of temperature and the applied normal load. newlineAt elevated temperature studies better coefficient of friction was found in the newlineAlCrN Multilayer deposited stainless steel. As per ASTM standards, newlineevaluation of hardness, microstructure and tribological properties were carried newlineout. newline
