dc.description.abstract | The earth constitutes of 71% of water as its major area, in forms of newlineoceans, glaciers and ice, ground water and source from mountains, in which newline3.4% of the water is being used by the people for domestic purposes. Water is newlinealso used in industries for different applications, for the purposes of newlinemanufacturing, cleansing and cooling requirements. As per the statistical newlinereport industries utilize water and also pollute the source in the form of wastes newlinethat are formed in the processes. newlineThe government has proposed various measures and constraints for the newlineindustries for the disposal of the waste water into the water resources. One newlinesuch important parameter to be considered before disposal is the pH, which newlinedefines the concentration of the hydrogen ions (H+ newline) and hydroxide ions (OH- newline) newlinein the water that makes it either Acidic (high quantity of H+ newline ions), Alkaline newline(high quantity of OH- newline ions) or Neutral state. newlineNeutralization is the process of converting or maintaining the process newlineliquid at a pH value of 7. To neutralize the liquid pH, additives are utilized newline(i.e) when the liquid is found to have acidic nature, alkaline solution is added newlineand vice versa is carried out if the liquid is found alkaline. Additives are newlineadded to the process liquid using the various final control elements using newlinesuitable control system. The control system gets the information from the set newlinepoint and compares the data from the pH sensor to control the amount of newlineadditive to be added through the control element. newlineThe basic control systems utilized in industries for the pH process are newlineProportional Integral (PI) controller and simple ON-OFF controller. In this newlineresearch work, controllers such as conventional PI controller tuned using newlineZiegler Nichlos (ZN), Tyres Luben (TL) and Internal Model Control newlineiv newlinetechniques are proposed for tuning the controller gain values. newline | |
