dc.description.abstract | In India, brick masonry a mixture of brick and mortar is frequently newlineused in the construction of buildings. As many years ago, burned clay blocks newlinewere frequently used to construct the buildings. However, fly ash-based newlinebricks and light weight blocks are starting to replace burned clay bricks in newlinebuildings due to increasing environmental concerns about resource saving and newlinefly ash dumping. The characteristics of building components, such as brick newlineand cement, both individually and collectively, affect building behaviour. As newlinebricks are manufactured from locally available basic materials with intrinsic newlineunpredictability, their characteristics differ significantly from region to newlineregion. Because of this, a study on the construction of brick masonry newlinebuildings may neglect or overstate the structural capability when examining newlinethe mean values of material characteristics. The unpredictability and variety newlineof the material qualities of brickwork must be taken into account when newlinedesigning a building to make it secure. While the varied mechanical newlinecharacteristics linked to steel and concrete has been extensively studied, the newlinesame is not so for brick construction. newline Lack of evidence has made it difficult to understand brickwork s newlineambiguity when analysing buildings. Brickwork is anticipated to experience newlineboth in-plane and out-of-plane pressures when subjected to horizontal newlinestresses. Masonry structures have very little resistance to out-of-plane newlinepressures, which is typically overlooked in research and construction. The newlineconnection between masonry and cement, however, resists in-plane pressures newlinethat operate when aligned to the wall s plane. When facing in-plane pressures, newlinemasonry s shear bonding strength is crucial. To obtain excellent tensile newlinebonding strength, bricks must be soaked prior to building. newline | |
