Abstract: | The recent developments in the power electronic fields have newlineattracted more applications of non-linear loads such as adjustable speed newlinedrives, traction drives, UPS, battery chargers, etc. These loads have inherently newlineintroduced the harmonics in the tied power system and cause many power newlinequality issues like electromagnetic interferences (EMI), malfunctioning of newlinerelays and circuit breakers, de-rating of power devices, heating losses and their newlineassociated problems. The harmonics are to be eliminated or reduced by using newlinepower filters with proper control techniques. In many research articles, the newlineknown method of shunt active filters being introduced in the PCC and load newlineend has been reported. This research work has demonstrated the performance newlineenhancement of VSI fed induction motor by introducing a new scheme of newlineShunt Active Filter (SAF) at the supply end. The SAF performs the reduction newlineof source current harmonics due to non-linear load like VSI fed three phase newlineinduction motor. The instantaneous active and reactive current control newlinetechniques have been implemented and studied using different controllers. newlineShunt active filter has been used to generate the equal but opposite harmonic newlinecurrents to cancel the effects of harmonic currents drawn by the non-linear newlineload from the supply. The proposed system has been studied with PI, PID, newlineFuzzy logic, ANN and Fractional order PID controllers. The main goal of this newlineresearch work is to enhance the power quality by the way of reducing the newlinesupply current harmonic THDs. The proposed research work has been newlinesimulated using MATLAB software and its simulation results have been newlineverified by the experimental results. The results have indicated a low source newlinecurrent harmonic THD of 2.72% owing to the introduction of the shunt active newlinefilter on the supply side and closed loop control. newline newline |
