dc.description.abstract | newline Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading causes of disability and mortality worldwide and are widely recognized as a serious public health challenge in both high-income countries and developing countries, including India. CVDs are a threat to achieving sustainable development goals in India. There is still a paucity of reliable data at the national level on the prevalence of CVDs, risk factors, and the role of other social variables in contributing to the health inequality of CVDs. The early occurrence of CVDs among the Indian population and the high case fatality attributable to CVDs is a worrying trend and demands special attention from researchers, health administrators, and other public health stakeholders. Several small-scale epidemiological and hospital-based studies have been conducted in India, but to a large extent, failed to provide conclusive evidence to support developing appropriate intervention strategies. | |
