In 2002, the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) defined ultra wideband (UWB) technology to be a technology having absolute bandwidth of 500 MHz or fractional bandwidth of 20 percent. In addition, FCC allocated at 3.1-10.6 GHz frequency band for unlicensed indoor or short-range uses for UWB communication, with a maximum allowed power spectral density of -41.3dBm/MHz. newlineDue to the use of picoseconds wide narrow pulses, carrier free operation, and wider bandwidth, UWB technology comes with inherent advantages like moderate robustness to fading effects, simple and low-cost implementation, ability to share frequency spectrum, large channel capacity, ability to work with low signal to noise ratio etc. newline newline
