dc.description.abstractThe present study deals with the Relevance of Gandhi s Socio-Political Ideas in Contemporary India. Some of the variables like Panchayat Raj, Women Empowerment, Communalism, Religion and Morality, Caste system has been selected to focus upon. Gandhi s ideas on these themes and period after Independence has been analysed to have better understanding of the subject and comparison has been drawn. Gandhi s ideas initially and how the evolved at the later stage of his life has also been compared. The field survey through questionnaire method has been adopted to have the better understanding of the subject. 200 respondents from different states of North India from different professions and age group have been taken. The conclusions were drawn from the views of the respondents. Gandhi s contemporary perception has been depicted and how far the Indian government and policy makers have adopted Gandhi s ideas today has also been shown. The ideal of India as perceived by Gandhi after Independence and how system actually worked has been studied. The major government initiatives and constitutional safeguards related to variables have been highlighted. Gandhi s writings were the base of the study. 71% respondents think Gandhi s ideas are relevant and, in the times, coming his ideas will become more relevant as world is moving towards destruction. newline
