Eye tracking is a sensor technology that monitors a user s eye movements to study cognitive processes, including visual attention. Researchers can determine where a user s focus during specific tasks by quantifying eye movements. It is primarily researched in engineering, neurology, computer science, psychology, and medicine. Recently, educational researchers have shown interest in eye-tracking to analyse learner attention to decode their characteristics, comprehend the learning process, and create personalised learning tools and materials. The existing research studies in education reveal that eye-tracking technology can infer the cognitive process of learners and provide insight into visual attention and problem-solving skills. However, only a few research focused on using eye gaze data to quantify learner performance in a programming language assessment. Another challenge is the lack of an open eye-tracking dataset suitable for understanding these concepts. We are interested in building an efficient assessment tool for the programming domain and providing personalised feedback to learners on their performance. The thesis aims to Propose an assessment system that uses learner s visual attention to gain deeper insights into their skills and cognitive traits . A learner must acquire programming abilities, comprehend the syntax, and test the code for errors to master a programming language. Because of this, it s critical to evaluate their challenges and offer personalised feedback for improvement. An instructor can only access the score or the final answer script in an online test. It is unknown what interactions take place during the assessment process. Knowing how learners interact with the assessment system might help reveal more details about the factors that affect their performance. An Intelligent Eye Gase-based Learner AsSEssment (IEyeGASE) system was proposed to provide insight into these aspects of the learner during the assessment. It provides feedback on a learner s performance in a task and what ..-
