Abstract: | Introduction: newlineSubsequent surgeries discomfort after orthopedic surgery has persisted as a formidable issue, leading to extended hospitalization and delayed recovery. Pregabalin belongs to the family of Gabapentinoids, which are commonly utilized for postoperative pain management in arthroplasty and spine procedures. However, there is little research on its effectiveness as a pre-emptive analgesic in orthopaedic limb surgery. newlineAim: newlineTo compare the effectiveness of preoperative pregabalin with a placebo drug in early post operative pain management for leg orthopaedics surgeries. newlineMaterials and Methods: newlineA research carried out using a randomized double-blind prospective design. A total of sixty patients, aged around 18 and 70 years, were recruited and split into two categorys. Category A was given a 150mg oral pregabalin pill, whereas Category B got vacant capsules that matched in color. Conventional spinal anesthesia was administered. An intravenous injection of Tramadol 50mg was administered to provide a significant pain relief. Assessment of pain was done with VAS at 6, 12, 24 and 48 hours. newlineResults: newlineIn comparison to Category B, Category A had a promising deviated postoperative VAS score and required much less breakthrough analgesia within the first 24 hours after surgery. newlineConclusion: In orthopaedic lower limb fracture surgeries, Pre-emptive pregabalin of 150mg provides adequate postoperative analgesia with relatively few unfavourable negative impacts. newline |
