Abstract: | The prevalence of balance, gait, muscle strength and range of motion deficits increases with newlineage and is associated with the increased incidence of falls seen in the elderly population; newlinethese falls are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. it is estimated that the newlineprevalence of gait disorders in community- residing elderly adults aged 65 and older is 35%. newlineAdditionally, impairments of balance and gait have been implicated in increased risks of newlinefalls. In adults aged 65 and older, the estimated annual prevalence of falls is 28%.Falls are newlineassociated with significant morbidity and mortality in the elderly: they are the most common newlinecause of accidental death. The senior population is rapidly increasing in both industrialised newlineand developing nations (Kannus P, 2005). The most prevalent health issues affecting the newlineelderly include musculoskeletal ailments. In this demographic, the ensuing loss of freedom newlineand movement can be very painful (Wolff JL, 2002). Early findings showed a substantial newlinepercentage of people presenting with lower ankle muscular strength, which has been newlineproposed as a potential contributing reason for poor balance (Bosien WR, 1955, Staples OS, newline1972). However, health care providers pay less attention to the Geriatric Population. newlineThe pre- test post -test control group design was used following the convenience sampling newlinetechnique 100 Community Dwelling elderly Subjects were screened and were randomly newlineallocated into 2 groups (Group A-Kinesio Tape Group, Group B- Sham Tape Group) by newlineclosed envelope method. newline |
