Comparative Evaluation Of Root Planing Procedure In Periodontitis Patients Using Magnification Loupes Surgical Operating Microscope And Unaided Vision Techniques A Clinico Microbiological Study

Abstract

A Clinical microbiological study was designed for patients diagnosed with periodontitis according to the criteria of the 2017 World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases and Conditions. A total of 120 patients above the age of 18 years who fulfilled the selection criteria were divided into three groups. Group A patients underwent conventional ultrasonic scaling and root planing under naked eye, Group B patients underwent ultrasonic scaling and root planing under 2.5x magnification of magnification loupes and Group C patients underwent same procedure but under 0.6 magnification variable of surgical operating microscope. newlineFrom the obtained results, following conclusions can be drawn that non-surgical periodontal therapy performed under higher magnification shows improved treatment outcomes. Evaluation of clinical outcomes such as plaque index, gingival index, bleeding on probing, probing depth during the study showed the same. Non-surgical periodontal therapy under surgical operating microscope showed clinically positive improvement signs superior or almost equal to when done under dental loupes or naked eye. newline
