Abstract: | Introduction: Dandruff is a scalp disorder characterized by shedding of skin cells, itchy skin, flaky skin, and indiscernible inflammation and is corelated with Darunaka in Ayurved. Current treatment modalities show many side effects or are too much of a hassle. A new dosage form i.e., gel of a classical decoction Dashemani Kandughna gana is prepared and clinically tested in this study. newlineAim: Clinical evaluation of Dashemani Kandughna Gel in the patients of Darunak newline(Dandruff) newlineMaterials and Methods: The pharmaceutical study consisted of pilot study for finalizing gelling agent and its concentration. The gel was prepared using decoction of ten herbal drugs of Dashemani Kandughna class as a base, Carbopol 934P as a gelling agent and additives Triethanolamine, DMDM, glycerin. SOP was developed and standard parameters for DKG were established based on the organoleptic parameters, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, spreadability, and irritancy. Sterility was verified using microbial count assay. Stability was confirmed as per ICH guidelines at ambient, intermediate and accelerated conditions. Anti- microbial activity of DKG at 1g/ml concentration against 6 microbes i.e., 2 fungi and four bacteria, was tested using agar well diffusion method. The clinical efficacy was tested through single-arm non-randomized open-label clinical trial in 120 patients. Intervention comprised of consecutive 21 days night time application on affected scalp. Assessment was done using gradation scales for Kandu (itching), Rukshata (dryness), Keshachyuti (hair fall) and Twaksphutana (scaling of scalp skin as well as trichoscopic examination and gradation. newline |
