Effect of Teneligliptin on Glucagon Like Peptide 1 Glp 1 and its influence on body weight insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome in non diabetic obese individuals

Abstract

Dipeptidyl peptidase 4 DPP 4 inhibitors are oral antidiabetics reported to have significant effect on body weight and metabolic syndrome through alteration of the GLP 1 levels in diabetics and in some non diabetics Teneligliptin is a cost effective and long acting DPP 4 inhibitor and there is lacunae of research on effect of teneligliptin on GLP 1 levels and its influence on body weight and metabolic syndrome among non diabetic obese subjects A prospective, randomized parallel group study was carried out at the outpatient department of an endocrinology hospital for a period of 48 weeks A total of 150 were randomized into test n equal to 75 and control group n equal to 75 the test group with teneligliptin 20 mg twice daily 30 min before food along with carbohydrate diet LCD and regular physical exercise control group with only LCD and regular physical exercise At the end of the 48th weeks significant increase in GLP 1 levels decrease in SNAQ score reflecting on loss of appetite and a possibility of 5 percent weight loss reversal of insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome decreased Triglycerides and 3 kgs reduction of body weight were observed in the test group Teneligliptin was well tolerated except for upper respiratory tract infections newline
