Abstract: | INTRODUCTION: newlineThe prevalence of lower back discomfort caused by lumbar degeneration disc degeneration has been on the rise in the last decade. People suffering from lumbar degenerative disc degeneration often choose for non-operative therapy owing to the presence of co-morbidities and their hesitancy about undergoing spinal intervention operations. The effectiveness of targeted neuron branch blockage with lumbar epidural drugs has been verified. In this research, we analyzed the effectiveness of the spinal intervention procedures in comparison with nonoperative management. newlineMATERIALS and METHODS: newline82 patients were included after considering the including and excluding criteria. Individuals were separated into two distinct categories using randomization. Category I received non-operative management and category II received spinal intervention in the form of targeted neuron branch blockage nor lumbar epidural steroid injection. The outcome measures were assessed in terms of standard lives using the European Quality of Five Dimension Scale, ODI Score, and VAS results for suffering. This assessment was done after spinal intervention procedures and nonoperative management in each category, at the conclusion of a six-month monitoring period. newlineRESULTS: newlineIn our study, out of 82 patients, 45 patients underwent non-operative management with analgesics and physiotherapy and were labelled in category I, 37 patients underwent spinal intervention and were labelled in category II. Out of 37 patients in spinal intervention, 13 patients underwent epidural steroids and 24 had selective nerve root block. Mean VAS range before the medication in category I was found to be 7.3 and in category II it was 8.0, at the six-month monitoring VAS grade improved to 4.2 (p=0.000) and 2.7 (p=0.000) in category 1 and 2 correspondingly. Before treatment average, ODI in category 1 was 68.31% as well that in category II was 72.9%, and 6 months follow up the score was 28.3% (p= 0.000) in category newlineI along with 17.9% (plt0.005) in category II. Average improvement in functional outcome in category I was analysed to be 39.9% and in category II was 55% (p=0.000). Average European quality of life scale in category I was 12.22 and in category II was 12.86 and at 6 months monitoring the average range in category I and category II was 8.7 and 6.2 respectively. The Mean improvement in the score in category I was 3.4 and in category II was 6.5. Changes in p- value of both the category measured in all three parameters were found to be statistically significant, while the patient in category II had better stress relief at the conclusion of the six-month follow-up. newlineCONCLUSION: newlineThe lumbar degenerative disc disease at a phase one grade can be treated effectively with conservative management and spinal intervention procedures like lumbar epidural injection or selective nerve root blocks. Spinal intervention procedures have a superior role and outcome in the association of phase one grade lumbar disc disorder patients when compared to nonoperative treatment modalities. newlineKEYWORDS: newlineLumbar disc degenerative disease, Lumbar epidural steroid, Selective nerve root block, Spinal intervention. newline |
