Abstract: The present work comprises thermo-foaming of alumina powder dispersions in molten sucrose to prepare alumina foams. The hydrophilic interactions between the alumina particle surface and sucrose hydroxyl groups promote the alumina powder dispersion in the molten sucrose. In another innovative study, the freeze-casting technique has been developed for fabricating porous ceramics with distinctive pore structures. The thesis also explores the emerging area of lead-free piezoceramics where the development of lamellar-structured, porous lead-free (Na0.52K0.48)(Nb0.95Sb0.05)O3 ceramics, abbreviated as NKNS, using the freeze casting method, has been reported newline
