dc.description.abstract | INTRODUCTION newlineAcne is a prevalent condition characterized by inflammation of the pilosebaceous system, and it often persists over an extended amount of time. Multiple modalities of management are present for acne vulgaris which includes exterior therapy, systemic therapy, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, intralesional steroids and light therapies. Salicylic acid is a very effective keratolytic agent used in the treatment of acne. Mandelic acid which is a superficial chemical peel is gaining momentum regarding the therapy of Acne vulgaris. Hence this analysis is being done to distinguished the therapeutic effectiveness and precaution of 40 % Mandelic acid peel with standard 30% salicylic acid peel in Acne vulgaris. newlineMATERIALS AND METHODS newlineThis research had a cohort of 100 participants. The individuals were categorized under two distinct categories: Group A and Group B. Group A patients received 30% Salicylic acid peel every 2 weeks once for 8 weeks in OPD which was neutralised with water after frosting was seen followed by broad spectrum sunscreen application .Group B patients received 40% Mandelic acid peel every 2 weeks once for 8 weeks in OPD which was neutralised with water after 2 minutes of application followed by sunscreen application. Lesion reduction was calculated using MSI (Michaelson severity index), subjective and objective evaluation and photographic comparison on each follow up. newlineRESULTS newlineOut of 100 patients, 86 patients completed the study. Majority of the patients belonged to 18-22 years age bracket proving acne is a disorder of adolescents and young adults. Most of the individuals in our analysis were females. Study population medicated with 30% Salicylic peel had significant reduction in MSS index compared to patients treated with 40% Mandelic peel. The safety and tolerablilty was better seen with 40% Mandelic acid peel. Further studies with higher number of peeling sessions should be done to estimate the true effectiveness of 40% Mandelic acid in Acne vulgaris. newline | |
