Abstract: Photovoltaic (PV) systems provide promising ways to generate clean electric power, to meet the newlineincreasing energy demand and mitigate global warming. A significant advantage of PV systems newlineis the use of abundant and free energy from the sun, and being harmless to the environment and newlinerenewable. However, these systems still face major obstacles due to their high installation cost newlineand low efficiency. Moreover, the fluctuations in the output power due to variations in the newlineatmosphere lead to an unsatisfactory performance, and reduce the reliability of the PV system. newlineThis low efficiency of PV system has attracted the attention of the researchers and newlineindustries to search for alternative semiconductor materials which can perform better under the newlinepresent circumstances. This thesis shows the experimental analysis of various semiconductor newlinematerials that can be used commercially based on III-V and II-VI group elements and other newlineorganic and inorganic thin film materials. Initially, literature review based on existing newlinesemiconductors materials such as Ge, GaAs, InGaP based single junction solar cell was explored newlineto understand their operating mechanism, Further, new materials such as (a) InGaN single newlinejunction and multiple junction, (b) CdS/CdTe, CdS/CdZnTe, (c) Organic solar cell material and newlinetheir different combination (d) Perovskite solar cell material along with the gaps in research was newlineexplored.
