dc.description.abstract | Certain socio-economic factors in India are responsible for compelling many parents to engage their children in child labour thus depriving them of educational facilities. These children remain uneducated and low in skill acquisition and after attaining adulthood they are generally suitable for unskilled jobs with low wages and fewer opportunities for growth resulting in low human capital accumulation. Therefore, in the Indian scenario, child labour is a severe social as well as an economic problem that requires to be tackled by making effective policies by policymakers, stringent implementation of laws and constructive participation of community and NGOs. But the major challenge for policymakers is to identify the correct and effective methods of social and economic interventions to get rid of the child labour crisis. In order to develop such policies, not only a better understanding of socio-economic factors affecting child labour is important but needs to analyse of how they affect the different regions of the country and sections of the society. newline | |
