dc.description.abstractAs the present study deals with the concept of Selfand#8223; and Society in the selected newlinevolumes of stories written by Bharati Mukherjee and Jhumpa Lahiri, it throws light on newlinethe various issues related to postcolonialism. As this study deals with the works of newlineimmigrant writers who had Indian blood in their veins but got nurtured in foreign newlineland, it incorporates the theory of postcolonialism. The study deals mainly with an newlineanalysis of the selected volumes of stories to bring out how the two female story newlinewriters perceive, respond and react to the observed situation confronting them and newlinehow they assert themselves living in an alien society and how their personalities get newlineevolved on comparative ground, the study reveals how the two women writers in spite newlineof belonging to different socio cultural background, share certain similarities (though newlinesome dissimilarities also) in projecting their odd situation through their stories newline
