dc.description.abstractThe present cross-sectional study was carried out to investigate the body composition, fat distribution and hormonal profile of women diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome. A total of 250 women, age ranging from 18 to 45 years, residing in Chandigarh capital region (CCR) were enrolled in the study. The ethical approval was taken from the Institutional Ethical Committee of Panjab University, Chandigarh (PUIEC/2018/109/A/09/01) as well as Ethical Committee of Postgraduate Institute of Medical Research and Education (PGIMER), Chandigarh (INT/IEC/2018/000450). The data was collected from OPD of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, PGIMER, Chandigarh in various phases from 14thApril 2018 to 15th January 2020. Rotterdam criteria was followed to diagnose PCOS women. The data were stratified into three body mass index categories i.e. underweight (BMIlt18.50), normal weight (BMI=18.50-22.90) and overweight/obese (BMIgt23.0) using WHO (2004) cut- off values for Asian population. Methods for data collection involved interview based schedule, anthropometric measurements, physiological parameters, biochemical, hormonal test and ultrasound scan history. Socio-economic status (Agarwal et al., 2005), physical activity level (MDRF 2015) and dietary intake (Gopalan et al., 1990) of all the participants were assessed. newline
