Study of evaluating the effect of complete dentures on signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disorders analyzed by craniomandibular index in completely edentulous patients

Abstract newlineBackground newlineTemporomandibular disorder (TMD) is a comprehensive term that refers to problems with the newlinetemporomandibular joint (TMJ), masticatory muscles, and occlusion. The most common symptoms are joint noises, TMJ pain, masticatory muscle tightness, and restricted lower jaw movement. Thus, the need of this study was to explore how complete dentures affect TMJ dysfunction indications and symptoms in individuals who are entirely edentulous. newline newlineAim: This study evaluates the effect of rehabilitating completely edentulous patients with complete denture prosthesis on temporomandibular disorders newline newlineMethodology: An observational analytical study was conducted with 110 samble size. Patients who were completely edentulous and who has not weared complete denture were selected. The anamnestic component of Helkimos Index was used to get sample size. Those with moderate to sever signs and syptoms as per Helkimos Index were included. The Craniomandibular Index was used to get the score of TMD before complete denture insertion and after 3 months of denture insertion. This score was analyzed and compared. On the basis of this score the Craniomandibular Index was categorized as per the severity. newline newline newline
