Abstract: | newline Abstract newline newlineBurn is one of these issues since it affects the skin layer making it vulnerable to foreign matter entering and creating serious infectious diseases. Burns are a kind of injury to skin or other tissues caused by exposure to extreme heat, flame, radiation, electricity, or contact with chemicals. Burn wound has become a major trauma problem worldwide due to its complications. The most common burn injuries result from exposure to heat or chemicals. The present study provides scientific rationale for the use of Vitex negundo plants with cow ghee in the management of thermal and chemical burn wounds. In this study, we have evaluated the burn wound healing activity of Vitex negundo leaves extract. Also, Cow ghee has also been reported to show wound healing and skin regeneration activity but rarely used to formulate semisolid formulations especially for treating burn wounds. The extractive value of leaves extract of the plant Vitex negundo was (20.08%) in ethanol as solvent. The ethanolic extract of Vitex negundo leaves and the semisolid formulation of Vitex negundo leaves extract with cow ghee as a base showed good thermal and chemical burn wound healing activity, which were compared with standard drugs silver sulphadiazine and herbal drug aloe vera. The herbal cream of Cow ghee base Vitex negundo extract, W/O phase cream was formulated successfully. The formulation batches of cream base without cow ghee were prepared on trial basis and final formulation of cream (without cow ghee base) was selected on the basis of its physicochemical parameters and used further for the preparation of herbal cream of Vitex negundo leaves extract without cow ghee base. Cow ghee-based cream V. negundo extract formulation (Group XI) was found to be the most effective and quickest when compared to the Standard drug Silver Sulphadiazine (Group II) and ethanolic V. negundo extract (Group V) tried in both types of wounds (Thermal and Chemical). The wound healing rate was significantly greater than that of all the gro |
