dc.description.abstract | BACKGROUND newlineThe PCOS is the chronic endocrine problem which affects the young women adolescents across the globe and is becoming an alarming issue throughout the entire world. Multiple factors associated in the formation of PCOS; the etiology of PCOS is mostly determined by hereditary factors. newlineAIMS newline1. To identify FTO gene polymorphism in female with PCOS. newline2. To compare the association of FTO gene polymorphism between women with PCOS and normal women. newlineMATERIALS AND METHODS newlineThis was Case-control research. This study was completed among women who visited the out-patient ward of Gynecology department, Kelambakkam for the period of 18 months. The sample size was estimated as 100, but due to Covid pandemic, 30 samples were drawn from women with PCOS as study groups and 30 samples were collected from age matched controls and a total of 60 samples were analysed. The samples were equally distributed based on the simple random sampling method. The data regarding the history of PCOS, examination and blood investigations like haemoglobin, thyroid profile levels were composed from women with PCOS and average women. The 2 ml venous blood sample was collected and sent for genetic analysis and genotyping, was evaluated by quantitative RTPCR for both groups. USG pelvis was done for both the groups. The body mass index was also recorded for both groups. The composed values were listed and evaluated utlizing ANOVA. newlineRESULTS newlineThe AT allele was found to be significantly protective of the diseases. The codominant and the dominant model indicate that the presence of even a single T gene can be protective against the development of PCOS in South Indian population. The presence of A allele was not found in the patient population but the allelic model indicated that the A allele was protective in nature. The lack of the A allele in the instance may be attributed to the limited range of samples in the research. newlineCONCLUSION newlineObesity had a strong impact on polycystic ovary syndrome. The presence of FTO gene polymorphism was discovered to have an inhibitory effect towards the onset of PCOS. newlineKEYWORDS: Obesity, FTO gene, TSH, Haemoglobin, PCOS. newline | |
