Performance Enhancement of Five Phase Neutral Point Clamped Inverter Fed Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Drive

Abstract

The Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) has been a part of industries for many years especially for the motor drive applications. The Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) Multi Level Inverter (MLI) has been preferred among other MLI techniques as it has lower Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) with higher efficiency. The MLI is operated according to the pulses given for power electronic switches with certain switching frequency based on the electric drive applications. The different types of Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) schemes are available to control NPC MLI, however it could not reach the demand expected from the modern drive s modification of analog signal is difficult. This can be overwhelmed by the implementation of digital pulses to the drives named Space Vector Modulation (SVM) that provides better DC-link balancing, lower harmonic distortion, reduced CMV and gives opportunity to select the required vectors to implement that results in the increase in performance newline
