Spatial patterns of population characteristics of Other Backward Classes OBCs in Haryana a case study of Hisar District

Abstract

The present research work on population characteristics of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) is an attempt to understand the genesis, population size, distribution and socio-economic characteristics with spatial perspective. The study, using available secondary data has very comprehensively mapped the distribution of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in India. The spatio- temporal depiction was very revealing. A case study of Hisar district was undertaken to understand the socio-economic aspects of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) using 1008 household level data from 18 villages. The data revealed inter caste disparities within Other Backward Classes (OBCs). It recommends the use of socio-economic caste census (SECC) data collected by Government of India for in-depth research to precisely know the actual size of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and their spatial distribution for the purpose of various welfare programmes at the national and at state level. newline
