Abstract

Information security risk assessment mostly carried out on the qualitative attributes which are not grounded in any theory. This paper presents and applies a well-known return on investment methodology based on business risk at asset value (RoAV) estimation for InfoSEC risk assessment and business impact analysis methodology for business continuity management. Also paper focus and demonstrate the sensitivity of the ARV to enterprise asset and its impact in order to continue business operation in most succinct form. Business loss is defined as a figure that relates the amount of potential loss in a given portfolio to its probability, and describes the quantize of the predictable distribution of losses over a given time period. From the InfoSEC perspective, ARV summarizes the worst loss due to a security breach over a target prospect, with a given level of confidence. Using this quantitative measure of risk, the best possible balance between risk and cost of providing security to mitigate the risk can be achieved. This approach also helps to identify critical asset in a better manner which helps us to mitigate integrity and availability risks from business continuity perspective.
