Abstract: newlineNearly everywhere in the world, fish farming is becoming more and more popular as an alternative source of affordable protein. Heavy metal poisoning affects the entire food chain in addition to harming fish. As more and more people throughout the world eat fish, therefore it is crucial to be concerned about the effects of metal toxicity on fish due to water pollution. Current experimental analyses clearly demonstrated that alterations in growth pattern, behaviour, biochemical content, histological, micro nuclear and molecular alterations in catfish, Clarias batrachus were due to lethal and sub-lethal levels of lead and mercury exposure. It can give an early warning signal of effects on animals by studying their effects on fishes, aquatic animals, terrestrial animals and human beings by the bio magnifications.
