Design and Development of Information Commons for Dr D Y Patil Vidyapeeth Pune

Abstract

The main aim of the present research was to study the various Information Commons developed by selected universities at global level. By studying the definitions, services, facilities, components and other infrastructure of Information Commons, the researcher carried out a survey of students and faculties of Dr. D Y Patil University, Pune. DPU is a well-known university in Pune. Presently more than 6000 students are studying in different colleges and disciplines. newlineThe descriptive method was used to carry out the present research work. Relevant data is collected through documents like books, e-books, e-journals and websites. A comprehensive questionnaire covering all aspects of Information Commons is used to find out the information needs of users of affiliated colleges of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune. There are total nine colleges having the total strength of 6017 students 824 faculty member. The researcher used Morgan table for sample selection. According to Morgan table 364 students and 265 faculties are selected for this study. The present research is divided into five chapters. Chapter One covers introduction, need of the study, research problems, objectives of the study, research methodology adopted, scope of the study and chapterization. Chapter Two describes in detail a comprehensive review of literature. Chapter Three is divided into two parts, Part A explains in detail the conceptual framework of Information Commons and Part B explains the an overview of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune. Chapter Four discusses the Data Analysis and Interpretation. Part A covers the Data Analysis and Interpretation of Student s Questionnaire, while Part B describe with Data Analysis and Interpretation of Faculties Questionnaire. At present there are Medical, Dental, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Optometry, Biotechnology, Management, Ayurveda and Homeopathy, colleges affiliated to Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune.
