dc.description.abstract | The objective of the study was to find out the effect of single periodization training on physical parameters of collegiate male and female volleyball players. One hundred male and one hundred female collegiate volleyball players from Satara District, Maharashtra, were selected randomly for this study. The subjects age group was ranging from 18 to 20 years. All the selected subjects undergone specially designed single periodization volleyball training program which lasted for one year. The training program was distributed in preparatory, competitive and transitional phase. Each phase consists of four months. Before and after each phase, subjects were assessed for cardiovascular efficiency, grip strength, vertical jump, arm strength, agility and flexibility by using standard tests. Treatment or training period for the subjects was for one year. The duration of training / day was 90 minutes in the morning and 90 minutes in the evening session, 6 days a week for a total period of one year. Further, the selected techniques and skills of volleyball were practiced in volleyball court, in the morning at 7.15 am to 8.45 am and in the evening at 5.00 pm to 6.30 pm. The experiment involved both male and female participants hence, the analysis for male and female participants was done separately. The obtained data from the subjects were statistically analyzed by using descriptive and differential analyses. Mean and standard deviation were calculated for descriptive analysis and the one-way analysis of variance was used for differential analysis. Whenever F ratio was found to be significant, the post hoc mean comparison was done by using Bonferroni test. newlineSection A Findings on Male Collegiate Volleyball Players newline1. Results on Cardiovascular Efficiency: Cardiovascular efficiency of male collegiate volleyball players increased during preparatory (MD=9.29; plt0.001) and competitive phase (MD=6.97; plt0.001) whereas declined during transitional phase of periodization. newline2. Results on Grip Strength: Strength of forearm muscles of male collegiate volleyball players increased during preparatory (MD=10.27; plt0.001) and competitive phase (MD=11.61; plt0.001) whereas declined during transitional phase of periodization. However, the training involved during transition phase of periodization helped to maintain the strength of forearm muscles of male collegiate volleyball players at optimum level. newline3. Results on Vertical Jump Performance: Strength of leg muscles of male collegiate volleyball players increased during preparatory (MD=7.35; plt0.001) and competitive phase (MD=7.59; plt0.001) whereas declined during transitional phase of periodization. However, the training involved during transition phase of periodization helped to maintain the strength of leg muscles of male collegiate volleyball players at optimum level. newline4. Results on Agility: Agility of male collegiate volleyball players improved during preparatory (MD=3.53; plt0.001) and competitive phase (MD=3.19; plt0.001) whereas declined during transitional phase of periodization. However, the training involved during transition phase of periodization helped to maintain the agility of male collegiate volleyball players at optimum level. newline | |
