The discipline that investigates the details and behavior of information, the forces newlineadministrating the flow of information, and the means for processing information for optimal newlineaccessibility and usability are termed as quotINFORMATION SCIENCE.quot Whereas information is the newlinemessage conveyed or intended to be conveyed by a structured body or ideas or its accepted or newlineacceptable substitutes. newlineAfter the Second World War, information expansion and explosion has been taking place. In newlinecurrent times, librarians have been observing the ever-growing number of bibliographic units like newlinebooks, periodicals, articles in periodicals corresponding increase in the size of library collections, newlinenumber of catalog cards, changes in search strategy, and so on. This becomes all more problematic newlinebecause of the limited budgetary provisions. Realizing these factors, no single library can afford to newlineacquire all those documents. Hence, limited and selected procurements of journals seem to be one of newlinethe practical remedies. Bibliometrics is relative of recent origin. Bibliometric studies are conducted to newlineidentify the pattern of publications, authorship, and citations used for a subject, etc. over a period of newlinetime and thereby offering insight into the dynamics of the area under a particular study.
