Indian Writing in English holds the way and continues to make wave on the international scene. Writing from India or from the diasporic spaces, the writers have won international awards including Nobel Prize, Booker Prize, Sahitya Akademi Awards and many others. Indian women writers have explored the feminine subjectivity and applied the theme that ranges from childhood to complete womanhood. Indian women novelists have offered a new dimension to the Indian Literature, by their panoramic view of the lives of women. The thesis entitled, The Predicament of Women in the Select Novels of Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni explores and analyses how women emerge as successful individuals with reference to Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni s select novels. The patriarchal society controls women by its rigid norms and codes which gives a more predominant position to men. A woman is considered as an inferior gender and she has to confront with several trials and tribulations from her birth to death. Feminist movements and writers have taken various measures to impart gender equality and fight against the injustices. In this respect, Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is one among the writers who has projected the adverse state of women and has portrayed how they struggle to emerge as independent identities. newline
