Abstract: The third generation of aluminium lithium alloys has recently gained immense newlinepopularity due to their exceptional potential for weight saving, high strength, stiffness, newlineand excellent damage tolerance compared to aluminium (2XXX and 7XXX) alloys; as newlineaircraft makers strive to improve both performance and fuel efficiency. The solid-state newlinebased friction stir welding technique was employed to join 2050-T84 Al-Li alloy as it newlineprevents the formation of the oxide layer, porosity and other solidification related newlinedefects. Al-Li alloy 2050-T84 is widely utilized in aircraft sectors due to its reduced newlineweight, joint quality and mechanical properties. newline
