Urbanization and rapid industrialisation in Kerala State have led to newlinesoil and water pollution, leading to serious ecological problems. The main newlinecauses of soil pollution include industrial activity, agricultural activities, newlinewaste disposal etc. Hence, monitoring and assessing soil and water pollution newlineis a critical area of study that is relevant nowadays. Field study of sites is newlinenecessary to identify the pollutant causing pollution which leads to newlinecontamination. newlineFive study areas in Kerala State which are very near to newlineindustries/landfills and contaminated by leaching action due to improper newlinedisposal of waste are selected in the present study. The soil quality and newlinewater quality parameters are analysed from samples collected from the newlineselected sites. The pollution assessment is carried out in these selected sites newlineto analyse the pollutants. The heavy metals present included lead, iron, zinc newlineand chromium. The sulphate contamination was assessed in all the study newlineareas. newlineIn order to study the variation in geotechnical properties of different newlinetypes of clayey soils, Kaolinite (CL) and Bentonite (CH) which represent newlinetwo extreme conditions of clayey soils are selected. The study of heavy newlinemetals and sulphate contamination in varying molarities (0.1M to 1M) on newlineCL to CH Soils is focussed. newline
