Abstract: | Ayurveda is an ancient medicinal practice that has been used in India for centuries and has gained worldwide recognition due to its safety and efficacy. To ensure the quality, effectiveness, and principles of Ayurvedic medicines, Ayurvedic pharmacy strictly follows the standard quality control tests mentioned in Ayurveda. However, many assessments mentioned in ancient texts are subjective and lack scientific validity, emphasizing the need for modern analytical techniques to obtain reliable quality protocols for the standardization and development of Ayurvedic formulations. Ayurvedic formulations offer a rich source of phyto-constituents with numerous pharmacological activities, and their potential is yet to be fully explored. This study aims to provide a scientific basis for the development of various hidden aspects of Ayurvedic formulations. newlineVG, a widely used Ayurvedic formulation, has been claimed to have antipsychotic, antidipsotropic, and anti-anemic potentials in traditional literature, but their scientific validation is lacking. This study aims to standardize VG by assessing its physico-chemical, analytical, and pharmacological parameters and evaluating its claims mentioned in traditional literature. newline To accomplish this, a literature survey on VG and related activities was conducted, followed by collecting and authenticating crude herbs and obtaining necessary chemical and other equipment. The crude drug constituents were standardized as per the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India, and VG was prepared in-house using standardized herbs, following the traditional method of preparation mentioned in the Ayurvedic Formulary of India newline.
