dc.description.abstract | Foundry Sand (FS) is a solid waste produced from the metal casting newlineindustry. Globally, casting production is about 105 million metric tons per newlineyear, about 0.60 ton of Foundry sand is produced per 1 ton of cast steel newlineproduction. Hence, the yearly production of Foundry sand is approximately newline62.64 million metric tons. Therefore, disposal of Foundry sand generated newlinefrom the casting industry pretenses serious environmental problems. On the newlineother hand, continuous extraction of natural resources is depleting the newlineenvironment at a rapid pace increasing the cost of production due to an newlineinsufficiency of natural resources. newlineThe usage of supplementary cementitious materials has become a newlineprimary part of special concrete like high strength, high performance newlineconcrete and Self Compacting fibre reinforced concrete composites, which newlinemay be natural by- products or industrial wastes. Some of the often used newlinesupplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) are fly ash, silica fume newline(SF), Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS), Rice Hush Ash newline(RHA) and Dolomite Powder (DP). Dolomite Powder is the Limestone newlinePowder with composition of CaCo3 and MgCo3 pertaining to 100% in newlinecombination, the proportion being varied as per Mining Zone. Dolomite newlinepowder has some similar characteristics of cement. Using dolomite powder in newlineconcrete can reduce the cost of concrete and may increase the strength to newlinesome extent. The cost of dolomite is less than that of cement. The reduction in newlinethe consumption of cement will reduce the emission of green-house gas. Since newlinethe cost of dolomite is less than that of cement. newlineThe possibility of using dolomite powder as partial replacement of newlinecement with various percentage of bagasse ash on the preliminary newlinecharacteristics of Self compacting concrete was carried out newline | |
