Right to social security for senior citizens a study of Punjab

Abstract

newlineThe study is based on the notion of right to social security for the senior citizens, which is well recognised in national and international documents. The locale of the study was Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (earlier Nawanshahr) district of Punjab. In this research, Social Security for senior citizens schemes have been studied across various categories such as Pension Schemes, Saving Schemes, Health Care Schemes, Nutritional Security Schemes, Subsidized Travel Schemes and Senior Citizens Identity Card to know the level of awareness, number of beneficiaries, their satisfaction levels, implementation and accessibility problems of these schemes among the senior citizens along with rural urban gaps. Further, implementation of Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 and status of senior citizens in family and society have also been analysed. In addition to this fact, it examined the role played by NGOs in promoting the welfare of the Senior Citizens especially in terms of social security in the sampled district of Punjab. newline newline
