dc.description.abstract | Justicia adhatoda has been used in preparation of herbal medicines. The aim of this newlineinvestigation was to standardize the process technologies for drying and milling, supercritical newlinefluid extraction, antimicrobial activity, insecticidal properties of bioactive compound extract newlineon foods, pharmacology, microencapsulation and stability of bioactive compounds from newlineJusticia adhatoda leaves. The maximum extraction yield (13.94 g.100g-1), extraction newlineefficiency (90.93%), total phenolic content (58.95 mg.GAE.g-1), total flavonoids (59.19 newlinemg.QE.g-1) and antioxidant activity (86.90%) was obtained for SFE extract at a temperature newlineof 60°C and 225 bar pressure. The FT-IR spectraindicated the presence of functional newlinegroupsand GC-MS chromatogram of SFE extract of Justicia adhatoda leaves showed newlinemaximum peak area percentages for phytocompounds compared to solvent extract. SFE newlineextract of Justicia adhatoda leaves was found to have antimicrobial and insecticidal newlineproperties. SFE extracted bioactive compounds to fig fruits was observed to be beneficial in newlinekeeping the quality for up to 6 days during storage. The SFE extract of Justicia adhatoda in newlineGroup V (49.05%) and Group VII (47.95%) higher doses exhibited excellent antidiabetic newlineproperty in albino mice. The microencapsulated powder of Justicia adhatoda leaf extract was newlineobtained by spray dryer with highest powder yield (86.47%), reconstitution properties such as newlinesolubility (95.30%), wettability (75.12 s) and dispersibility (84.83%) and functional newlineproperties viz.,total phenolic content (54.43 mg.GAE.g-1), total flavonoids (57.23 mg. QE. newlineg-1) and antioxidant activity (84.16%). The optimized microencapsulated powder found newlineaverage particle size of 227.5d.nm using Zetasizer, AFM, SEM and X-RD, respectively. newlineEffect of temperature on stability of powder of Justicia adhatoda leaf extract with respect to newlinetotal phenolic content, total flavonoid content, antioxidant activity and vasicine content were newlinedecreased during the storage.
