Extraction Of Some Selected Medicinal Herbs And Comparative Evaluation Of Developed And Marketed Formulation

Abstract

The extraction of selected medicinal plants for the development of a gastroretentive newlinepolyherbal capsule and its comparative evaluation with the marketed formulated having newlinethe same composition was the core aim of the undertaken study. According to the label newlineclaim of the marketed formulation AV Gastro, the plants were selected for developed newlineformulation development. The selected five plants include whole herb of Andrographis newlinepaniculata Nees., unripe fruits of Aegle marmelos Correa., stem of Holarrhena newlineantidysenterica Wall., root of Glycyrrhiza glabra Linn., and rhizomes of Zingiber newlineofficinale Rosc. The rationale behind the selection of these plants was their reported newlineantioxidant and antiulcer activities. The collected plant materials were authenticated newlineand standardized to ensure their purity and quality. The crude drugs were subjected to newlineextraction by Soxhlet extraction technique using ethanol as solvent. The comparative newlineHPTLC fingerprinting of the extracts of crude drugs and the marketed formulation was newlineperformed. The peaks at Rf values attested the extraction of important newlinephytoconstituents like Andrographolide, Conessine, Marmelosin, Monoammonium newlineglycyrrhizinate, and 6-Gingerol in the extracts of developed and marketed formulations. newline newline
