Abstract: Current energy scenarios dictate the increase of renewable energy newlinecontribution in global primary energy mix to mitigate global temperature rise, newlinebesides meeting the requirements for energy transition 2050. The increase in newlinethe utilization of renewables was evident in the last decade and the share of newlinebioenergy in global energy usage was around 50%. The bio resources are in newlinethe form of fuelwood, agricultural resides and wastes. Currently, agricultural newlineresidues contribute only 3% in the global share of biomass. Even though newlinemany wastes are utilised for energy conversion, the use of agricultural newlineresidues and wastes can play a major role in the process of energy transition. newlineFurther, the improvement in energy efficiency of conversion systems is newlineessential to widen the biomass application in energy generation. newlineThe global energy potential from agricultural residue is predicted to be newlinebetween 4.3 and 9.4 billion tonnes per year. Asian region has a huge potential newlineof biomass due to its strong agriculture base. Many countries like India are newlinealready implementing policies, and focusing on meeting rural and industrial newlineenergy needs by biomasses utilization technologies. One popular device for newlinethis task is biomass gasifier which can support many applications and better newlineutilisation of agricultural residues. Even though many gasifier types are newlineavailable for the gasification of agricultural residues, a suitable gasifier for a newlineparticular region could be selected based on the popular crops of the place. newlineThe downdraft gasifier is commonly used in commercial applications and the newlinethroat less type is preferable for fine feedstocks such as rice husk, groundnut newlineshell, almond shell and so on. newline
