Abstract: newlineSelf-Compacting Concrete (SCC) in its fresh state has the ability to flow due to its self-weight, fills the space or formwork, produces a dense and adequate homogeneous material without the need for additional compaction energy and spreads without entrapping air. In addition to its high workability, SCC is resistant to segregation and retains its stable composition throughout the transport and placement. SCC is mostly preferred in highly reinforced and deep structural elements since it eliminates the effects of improper compaction during concreting. newlineThe flow characteristics of SCC such as filling ability, passing ability and segregation resistance are evaluated qualitatively using the test procedures laid by EFNARC (European Federation of National Associations Representing for Concrete). The rheological parameters such as yield stress and plastic viscosity are used to measure the characteristics of SCC quantitatively. There are no well-established guidelines available to incorporate rheological properties to design an SCC mix proportion. Hence, a mix design procedure for SCC using rheological parameters such as yield stress and plastic viscosity is proposed in this work. newline
