Seasonal Variation and Phytochemical Evaluation of the Leaves of Aegle Marmelos L

Abstract

Aegle marmelos L. is a medicinal plant used in traditional formulations for the newlinetreatment of various disease conditions. The physicochemical properties fluctuate with newlinethe season and in response to stress. To obtain the highest medicinal value it is necessary newlineto collect the plant raw material in the correct season. The present studywas aim to newlineevaluate the phytochemical fluctuations in the leaves of Aegle marmelos. Leaves were newlinecollected in summer, winter, and rainy seasons and subjected to authentication and newlinestandardization. The leaves were evaluated for, extractive values in ethanol, and newlinedetermination of the concentration of total flavanoids and alkaloids.. The newlinephytochemical composition was varied seasonally which revealed that the levels of newlineextractive values fluctuated in response to seasonal variations. Maximum levels of newlineethanol extract were obtained in the monsoon season the amount of total flavalnoids newlineand alkaloids as well as the antioxidant potential were higher in this season. The suitable newlineraw material collection season can be decided based on the present study according to newlinethe purpose of utilization of plant material.
