Electrical power plays an important role in the modern world to satisfy the needs of human beings. It is therefore very important that the electrical power generated be transmitted and distributed efficiently in order to satisfy the power requirement. Electrical power is generated in conventional and non-conventional ways. The most significant crisis in the planning and operation of electric power generation systems is the effective scheduling of all generators in a system to meet the required demand. To cope with the present scenario in the electrical power industry, power system optimization research is very vital, and the interest of researchers in the field of optimization is increasing day by day. The power system optimization research problems are mostly connected to economic and environmental aspects such as power load dispatch, power generation scheduling, unit commitment problems, etc. The optimum solutions to the given problems save millions of dollars for any power industry and contribute to a pollution free environment. newline
