Abstract: | Evaluation of 30 single cross hybrids using L x T analysis during kharif 2006, at newlineUAS, Dharwad revealed that three single cross hybrids CMS 17 A x RHA-6D-1, DCMS 51 A newlinex R-298 and DCMS 51 A x RHA-272 showed significant standard heterosis over the check newlinehybrid KBSH-44 for seed yield. However, no hybrid gave significant heterosis for oil content newlineover KBSH-1. The SCA variance was predominant for head diameter, 100 seed weight, hull newlinecontent, oil content and seed yield per plant indicating the role of non-additive gene action in newlinetheir inheritance. The lines CMS 17 A and DCMS 51 A were good general combiners for newlinemost of the traits, except oil content in case of CMS 17A. The restorer R-298 was a good newlinegeneral combiner for seed yield, while RHA-6D-1 for oil content. newlineStability analysis of single and three-way cross hybrids carried out at three locations newlinerevealed that three-way crosses were comparable in their performance to single crosses newlinehybrids for seed yield, head diameter, 100 seed weight and oil content. However, two threeway newlinehybrids CMS 234 A x DSI-2 x RHA-6D-1 and DCMS 51 A x DSI-1017 x RHA-6D-1 had newlinehigh mean seed yield besides well adaptability. The genotypes x environmental interactions newlinewere noticed for days to 50 per cent flowering, plant height, head diameter, 100 seed weight, newlinenumber of filled seeds, volume weight, hull content, oil content and seed yield per plant. The newlineresistant reaction of two single cross hybrids CMS 17 A x RHA-6D-1 and CMS 17 A x RHA- newline271 and a three-way cross CMS 103 A x DSI-2 x R-64 to Alternaria disease noticed when at newlineleast one of the parents in the cross combination had moderate resistant reaction. The newlineparents which recorded moderate resistance were CMS 17 A, CMS 103 A and DCMS 51 A. |
