Abstract: | This thesis presents several designs of advanced plasmonic biosensors for medical applications by analysing human body fluids. Human body fluids include sweat, saliva, urine, breast milk, virginal secretions, blood, water components, and cell fluids. These body fluids can be investigated through PCF SPR sensor for disease detection through a shift in wavelength. The proposed structures of the biosensor are based on the surface plasmon resonance SPR phenomenon and designed on a photonic crystal fiber PCF platform. Thus the sensors designed and presented in this work are known as PCFSPR biosensors. The PCF possesses several advanced features over conventional fiber, like the arrangement of air holes, the dimension of the air holes, the distance between the centres of two air holes of the same or different sizes, etc. Besides structural features, several other parameters also play a prominent role in the designing of the PCF based SPR sensor. Several materials coating can be applied over the PCF to generate the free electrons and, finally, surface plasmonwave SPW. These materials are called plasmonic materials, playing a prominent role in the PCF SPR sensing. newline |
