Abstract: | newline Primary open angle Glaucoma (POAG) is the second most primary cause of blindness (after cataract) all around the world. In India, Glaucoma affects 12 million people and accounts for 12.8 % of the blindness defects. Around a year a total number of 10 lakh people encounter Glaucoma in some or the other way. This disease condition is characterized by the cupping of optic disc leading to initial visual defects due to retinal ganglionic loss. The disease is progressive in nature and the blindness caused is irreversible. The disease can be identified by selective loss of neural rim tissue in inferior and superior pole in the patient s eye. Glaucoma is a chronic disease and a progressive optic neuropathy which is the leading cause of blindness in the developing and industrialized countries (1). newline newlineQuantitative studies have suggested that late detection of Glaucoma is a major challenge for clinicians. The delay in detection happens at the level of patient as well as health care provider. The late detection is aggravated by lack of accuracy and non-effective referrals. Finding false positives and service delay also hampers the further detection of Glaucoma in real time patients (2). newline newlineSeveral forms of Glaucoma have been described in details by enormous workers. Our work has majorly revolved around prime type of Glaucoma which is POAG. POAG develops in those cases where an open, normal appearing anterior chamber angle is slightly raised. POAG is the most common form of Glaucoma effective a vast majority of Glaucomous population. A plethora of research has been performed regarding POAG and various molecular mechanisms being held responsible for its pathogenesis. A number of causes regarding the etiology of POAG have been described including presence of certain systemic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension (3). newline newline1.1.
