dc.description.abstractThe investigation was conducted to study the entrepreneurial behaviour of trained newlineand untrained dairy farmers in Dharwad and Belgaum districts of Karnataka during 2005-06. newlineHundred trained dairy farmers were selected from sample of 208 respondents by newlineproportionate random sampling and matching sample of 100 untrained dairy farmers was newlineselected randomly from same area to constitute the total sample size of 200. Structured newlineinterview schedule was used to collect the information through personal interview. Data was newlineanalysed by using frequency, percentage, correlation co-efficient, multiple regression and Ztest. newlineTrained (58%) and untrained (49%) dairy farmers had medium and low newlineentrepreneurial behaviour, respectively. The socio-economic profile of dairy farmers revealed newlinethat trained (68%) and untrained (66%) dairy farmers belonged to middle age, educated from newlineprimary to college level (100% and 79%, respectively), engaged in agriculture alongwith dairying newline(85% and 91%, respectively), medium size of family (62% and 59%, respectively), semi-medium newlinesize of landholding (54% and 37%, respectively), medium annual income (47% and 51%, newlinerespectively), low and medium experience in dairying (81% and 68%, respectively), high and newlinemedium economic motivation (64% and 53%, respectively) and medium market orientation newline(59% and 54%, respectively). Trained (57%) and untrained (64%) dairy farmers had high and newlinemedium knowledge regarding improved dairy management practices (56% and 51%). newlineEducation, landholding, annual income, experience in dairying, extension newlineparticipation and economic motivation of both dairy farmers had shown positively significant newlinerelationship and livestock possession, information seeking behaviour, scientific orientation newlineand market orientation had shown positively and age of trained dairy farmers had shown newlinenegatively significant relationship with their entrepreneurial behaviour. Significant difference newlinewas found in knowledge, adoption and entrepreneurial behaviour of trained and untrained newlinedairy farmers. newlineMajor constraints faced by both dairy
