Abstract: Lime was extensively used in concrete as a binding agent, mostly in place of cement. The quick lime is formed by heating the calcium carbonate (CaCO3) at the temperature of 1100oC. It is the purest form of lime and cannot be stored for more than a week, so lime slacking process is done to store easily. The process of slacking involves addition of small amount of water to quick lime. Lime provides good workability and plasticity while mixing. It prevents dampness, weathering effects and it is cheaper, easily available and environment friendly due to its less carbon emission. Due to this cementitious property it is replaced for cement in the concrete. The lime is added with different percentages in the cement mortar and then it is molded as a cube. The cement-lime mortar cubes of different percentages are cured and then tested to determine its optimum percentage of replacement of lime. And it is founded 25% lime replaced with the cement as the optimum percentage of replacement.
