Abstract: Lead free solders are the need of the hour as usage of lead has been newlinebanned throughout the world. Addition of rare earth elements on solder newlinematerials is being research upon throughout the world. Hence, it is only newlinelogical that a suitable lead free alloy is chosen for research and further studies. newlineIn this research, properties of two lead free alloys, namely newlineTin-Zinc-Antimony-0.5% Lanthanum and Tin-Zinc-Antimony-1.0% newlineLanthanum were studied in detail. Before selecting this particular alloy for newlineour research, preliminary studies were done on Tin-Zinc-Aluminium and newlineSin-Copper-Manganese-Silver alloys. A deep analysis was done on all the newlineprobable candidate alloys with regard to availability of material, properties of newlineselected alloys, cost and results obtained by our preliminary studies. Tin Zinc newlineAntimony Lanthanum alloy was selected as this alloy is new and very little newlinework is available on this alloy. newlineThe two alloys were manufactured by two different methods, newlinenamely furnace melting and ball milling and the properties obtained by using newlineboth these methods were compared elaborately. newlineMechanical tests conducted were tensile, compression, shear, newlineImpact hardness and wear tests and Electrical studies are done. Corrosion rate newlinewas determined. Both the manufactured alloys were characterized by Optical newlinemicroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Differential Scanning newlineCalorimetry, Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy, X-ray studies. newlineMechanical and electrical tests results were explained with the help newlineof the characterization methods. Lastly, conclusions were drawn linking the newlinetest results and characterization newline
