Abstract: | Organic polymer coatings are inexpensive and effective means to combat electrochemical corrosion, as well as microbiologically influenced corrosion. However, most organic coatings cannot provide long-term corrosion protection due to poor resistance for electrolyte diffusion. However, the presence of excessive free space and polar functional groups in the polymer matrix offers room for electrolyte interactions and leads to coating failure over long time exposure. Hence, durable coating with poor diffusability against electrolyte and harsh environments are needed. Over the past decade, the development of organic inorganic hybrids has garnered the attention of academic and industrial researchers, due to the synergistic benefits of the individual components. However, recently global community has shifting towards developing materials from natural sources with sustainability and non-toxic. Hence, the present work aims to develop hybrid coating from low cost regionally available natural source based organic inorganic hybrid coating materials and to explore its corrosion resistance along with anti-microbial behaviors. newline |
