Abstract: | newlineFrom ancient period man depends on nature for their survival and lives strictly connected with it. Plants are served as major natural resources for traditional as well as modern medicinal system all over the world. The therapeutic prospective of plants and plant products can be traced back to thousands of years. Plants have been used as a source of medicine for the treatment of different diseases for years. Phytochemicals are the naturally available bioactive compounds which are derived from different plant parts and are primarily responsible for biological activities. The most important phytocompounds which are present in the plants are alkaloids, phenols, saponins, carbohydrates, steroids, flavonoids and tannins etc. Alkaloids are the secondary metabolites of plants having noticeable pharmacological activity.Roots, leaves, bark and seeds are common parts of plants which contain alkaloids. Pharmacologically, alkaloids act as anti-cancer agent, antihypertensive, anti-leukemic, analgesic, nerve stimulants and anesthetic etc. Vinblastine and Vincristine, the two alkaloids that are present in Catharanthus roseus mainly used against cancer. Many number of effective drugs derived from medicinal plants were alkaloid paclitaxol, isolated from taxusbrevifolia used in treatment of breast cancer. Andrographolide active diterpine derived from Andrographis paniculata acts as a noble anti-cancer agent against cancers of breast, ovary, stomach, colon, kidney etc. The aim of the present study was to investigate anti-diabetic, anti-dote for snake bite, anti-cancer and anti-viral activitesof herbal plants from Western Ghats (A.paniculata, C.intybus, C.roseus). iv Andrographis paniculata Nees. A member of the family Acanthaceae is a plant commonly used as an antimicrobial, anti-viral, antidiabetic, and anti-inflammatory agent. Also, the plant is used as an anti-dote for snakebite. In the present study, a comparative study was taken against the phytochemicals with different solvent extracts from the leaves of A.paniculata (s |
